Reading
Children are reading a lot of books on their independent reading level. These are books they can read with accuracy, fluency, and with full comprehension. They are learning to increase stamina, time spent actually reading. They should be reading for at least 20 minutes each night. After they read, they should be able to talk about what they have just read. Conversation is very important in building their comprehension skills. Please ask your child questions after they have finished reading. Ask them to retell the story, have them include important details, and if they know the author's purpose for writing the story. If they have read a nonfiction book, you can ask them what they have learned about the topic and what else they would like to learn about the topic.
Writing
We are beginning our poetry unit. Children will be writing original poems. They will be experimenting with line breaks, white space, and word choice.
GO MATH
This month the children will be learning about time and money. They just took the Mid-Year Math Assessment!
There is a link on the school web page for extra help with GO MATH!
Children should also be going to xtramath for help. Both sites are amazing resources.
